March for an Alternative to cuts in public spending!

arch for an Alternative to cuts in public spending!

London March

The TUC is organising a national march and rally on 26th March 2011, in response to the government’s programme of fast and deep public spending cuts. The TUC website provides more information and resources for the day. On behalf of our branch as your Branch Secretary I attended a regional meeting on the 26th January 2011 in London. I was saddened to find out that NHS Trusts have announced redundancies in Beds, Herts and Bucks. It is shocking to think that not so far away, nurses and other support staff will be losing their jobs.

I have had the opportunity to speak with many of our members over the last few weeks and the general opinion is that they feel safe. This is sadly not the case. Like you I work for a beloved service known as the NHS. This is under threat and faces PRIVATISATION. It may in the future only exist as a brand. I am asking you to seriously consider what you will do in order to bring this to the attention of others. What service do you wish to have in the future? If the NHS goes it will never return. One small thing you can do is to march through London to protest against this. Herts Community Healthcare Branch of Unison is providing a coach and this will be leaving Harperbury, Lister and the QE2 with times to follow. Please do not leave this to others. We want a good turnout to show NHS Staff do care. Do you? You can make a difference! Please come along before it’s too late.

This is not industrial action.

Regards, Neil Sheehan, Branch Secretary.
